Equipping Leaders, Transforming Communities: Pastor Training in South Sudan

"We thank God for the opportunity to be involved in this training and to be part of what God is doing in South Sudan. We believe great impact is taking place and will be more evident in the days ahead."

The Need That Broke Our Hearts

During a medical mission to Nyamlel, South Sudan, one encounter changed everything. A woman walked miles from a distant village seeking medical care. During counseling, she shared something startling: she was leading a church—but had received no pastoral training. Each week, she relied on old sermon notes from a pastor she once knew, doing her best to shepherd her flock with whatever tools she had

Her story wasn't unique. Across South Sudan, pastors and church leaders were serving their communities with deep passion but minimal training, lacking the theological foundation and ministry skills to effectively disciple believers and transform their communities for Christ. That conversation between Dr. Kyle and James Lual at New Life Ministries sparked a vision: What if we could equip these faithful leaders with the training they desperately need?

Impact

The Partnership That Makes It Possible

Through a strategic partnership between Jesus Harvesters Ministries, Lift Up the Vulnerable (LUV), and New Life Ministries in South Sudan, we launched the School of Ministry Pastor Training program in 2024. Led by experienced instructors including Bishop Evans, Rev. Ajega, Rev. Francis Schambi, and Rev. John Mugo (Agape Missions Director), this initiative brings comprehensive biblical and pastoral training directly to South Sudanese church leaders who otherwise would have no access to formal ministry education.

Our intensive training sessions cover essential topics including:

  • Biblical foundations and theology

  • Pastoral care and counseling

  • Leadership development

  • Cultural contextualization

  • Life management skill

  • Evangelism and discipleship

Results

Results That Inspire

Since launching in 2024, we've trained 40 pastors and church leaders across two cohorts. But numbers only tell part of the story. The real impact is seen in transformed lives:

  • Rivals Becoming Partners: Pastors who once competed now collaborate as co-workers in ministry, united in their mission to reach South Sudan for Christ.

  • Reignited Passion: One pastor shared that life's challenges had left him burned out and ready to quit. After completing the first training session, his fire for ministry was rekindled. He started a new church in his home area—five months later, it has grown to 30 members.

  • Multiplication of Ministry: Our trained pastors now serve alongside our medical teams, providing counseling and prayer to patients during outreach events, extending the ministry's impact exponentially.

Foundations

Your Partnership Matters

Every pastor we train becomes a catalyst for transformation in their community. They preach with greater biblical authority, shepherd with increased wisdom, and disciple with enhanced effectiveness. The ripple effect is profound—as these leaders grow, so do their churches, their families, and their communities.

Your financial partnership makes this training possible. When you invest in a South Sudanese pastor, you're investing in:

  • Biblically sound preaching that transforms hearts

  • Strengthened churches that become community pillars

  • Leaders equipped to break cycles of poverty and spiritual darkness
