Providing shelter and hope for vulnerable children in Kimana

In 2005, a businessman from Alabama stood in an overcrowded Kenyan orphanage and couldn't shake what he saw—children desperate for hope, desperate for home. That burden led Larry Wren to raise $20,000 to purchase 20 acres in Kimana, a small town in Kenya's Maasai region between two major national parks. What happened next was an 18-year journey of faith, partnership, and persistence. Land was purchased. Buildings were constructed. An electric fence went up to protect against elephants and wildlife. A deep-water borehole was drilled in a semi-arid region where water is life itself. Solar panels were installed. A farm began to grow. And in 2023—nearly two decades after that first burden—the Dr. Steve Kabachia Children's Home finally opened its doors.

Refuge

Where orphaned children find family and purpose

Today, six beautiful children call this place home. There's Ramson who loves football, Angel who cares for everyone around her, Hannah whose smile lights up every room, Johannah who builds and fixes things, Jackline who sings with a voice that carries hope, and Shadrack who can't get enough of reading. These kids attend school, work on their own garden plots learning to farm, and most importantly, they're being raised by Agnes Ochuka—a house mother whose own childhood of homelessness prepared her perfectly to heal the wounds these children carry. Agnes doesn't just supervise; she hugs each child daily, speaks destiny over their lives, and loves them fiercely as the mother and sister they never had. She lives on-site with them, pouring into their lives with the kind of love that transforms futures.

Expansion

The Vision is bigger

But here's the thing—this home has the infrastructure to serve 60 children, yet only six are there now. The vision has always been bigger: five family-style units, each with a house mother creating real homes, not just housing. A working farm that teaches children dignity and self-sufficiency while generating income for sustainability. A place where orphaned kids aren't just rescued but equipped to become the pastors, teachers, nurses, and leaders who will transform East Africa. Getting there requires monthly operational support, farm development, training more house mothers like Agnes, and careful, faithful expansion. Every child who comes through these doors needs about $500-800 per month for food, education, medical care, and the staff who pour into their lives daily. Your partnership doesn't just help—it literally makes the difference between a child having a home or not having one, between healing or remaining wounded, between a transformed future or a desperate present.
